WHAT TO KNOW... BEFORE YOU GO

Please review before booking so you know what to expect for your visit.

Q: How big is the cavern?

A: The cavern is the largest in Ontario. However, if you have been to some huge caverns in the U.S. or other parts of the world, this one will seem smaller in comparison.

Q: What is the difficulty level?

A: This is an introductory level guided tour, ideal for people of all ages and especially those who have never been "spelunking" before.

Q: Is it safe?

A: The tour is extremely safe, and has been designed to be as user friendly as possible. Due to several flights of stairs, unfortunately, strollers and wheelchairs are not feasible. All visitors will be required to sign a standard liability waiver.

Q: How long does a visit take?

A: The tour itself is 45 minutes long. If you wish to stay longer, there is a nice view from the lookout and picnic area to enjoy. However, if you are travelling from a distance, we would recommend filling your day with some other local activities as well.

Q: Is it cold?

A: The average temperature of the cavern is 10°C or 58°F (like A/C on a hot summer day!) so you may wish to bring a sweater or light jacket.

Q: Are there bats?

A: We do have some small bats occasionally, but during the summer they are usually out hunting. If you do happen to see one, they are completely harmless!

Q: Is it wet or slippery?

A: If it has rained, or if we have recently rinsed the floors, it may be slippery. Please wear flat, non-slip shoes (no heels or flip-flops).

Q: Do tours run in the rain?

A: Tours run as scheduled. In the event of a thunderstorm, we may delay a few minutes until it is safe to resume.

Q: Can I bring my dog or other pet?

A: While we love our furry friends, the cavern is not suitable for pets. Animals are not permitted in the park area for safety reasons, so please consider leaving yours at home.

Q: Do I need to bring anything?

A: A flashlight is optional for a closer view of fossils and formations. There is no food on site, but you are more than welcome to pack a picnic. Otherwise, all you need is your sense of adventure, and a camera if you wish!

Q: So photography is allowed?

A: We do allow photography; however, video is not permitted.

Q: Are there souvenirs to take home?

A: We have a small gift shop with assorted crystals, necklaces, fossils, hand-painted items, and t-shirts. The gift shop is open from 10 AM - 4 PM daily. Cash or e-transfer only.

Q: Where is the closest town?

A: Belleville is just a 15 minute drive away, where you'll find all the amenities you need. There are plenty of places to eat, hotels, a movie theatre, casino, and shopping mall.

Q: What else is there to do in the area?

A: There is so much to do in the Bay of Quinte and beyond! Check out some of our recommendations below within an hour-ish drive away.
